If you’ve been an anime fan for any amount of time, especially if you’re an older fan, you’ve definitely heard of Asian Kung-Fu Generation, or AKFG for short. They have made so many epic and nostalgic openings for many big and small openings that you’re bound to love them, even if you weren’t aware it was them.
According to Wikipedia, “Asian Kung-Fu Generation (stylized as ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION) is a Japanese alternative rock band formed in Yokohama, Japan, in 1996. For its entire career, the band has consisted of vocalist Masafumi Gotoh, guitarist Kensuke Kita, bassist Takahiro Yamada, and drummer Kiyoshi Ijichi.”
“The band’s musical style is influenced by seminal Western alternative rock acts as well as their own local Japanese indie-rock and punk scene. Their songs incorporate various aspects of the genres, most typically expressing fast tempos and prominent power chord guitar riffs in addition to rhythmic groove and emotional lyrics.”
AKFG is a band I’ve known since my early anime days, and I wrote this article months back, but it was touching to see they were referenced in the fall 2022 music anime series, Bocchi The Rock! (Check out my analysis on the series here!) The characters share their family names with the band members, and they named each episode after a song of theirs. They even covered their song, “Rockn’ Roll, Morning Light Falls On You”, so if you’re wondering why the sudden trend and interest, now you’re in the know~
So, if you heard one or two, and was wondering what else they made, or just want to hear the full version of your favourite themes, check out this list!
