Spyair is definitely one of the first rock bands I came across and loved when I was digging more into Jmusic over a decade ago. Their hit song, “Samurai Heart (Some Like It Hot)” from Gintama is a catchy classic that I have yet to get bored of.
But since they started making openings for Haikyuu, such as “Imagination” and “I’m A Believer”, I know their popularity soared among the anime community.
According to Wikipedia, the band formed in 2005 and they produced and released a number of materials themselves, such as “Japanication” and “Kanjou Discord” when they signed up with indie label U-Project.
In 2010, they signed a major record deal with Sony Music, and released a couple major songs such as “Liar” for the drama Hammer Session!” and “Last Moment” for the anime Bleach. By 2011, they released “Samurai Heart (some Like It Hot” for Gintama, and they’ve made quite a few openings since then.
I personally really love what Spyair stands for. In one of their The First Take songs, Ike, the singer, shares how they aim to inspire others and give them energy.
Unfortunately, as I’m writing this article, it looks like Ike left the band on March 31, 2022 due to his struggles with Ulcerative Colitis. The band hasn’t mentioned disbandment, but I also know the band won’t be the same without his vocals. Regardless, I wish him and the band the best <3
