I remember when I used to play the keyboard *sigh*. Finding sheets 10 years ago was a nightmare! You were really at the mercy at a couple free sites as everything else was paid. Luckily, there’s more musicians and creators out there offering sheets for free and I have done the research to find all the ones available.
On another note, I also have a lot of Japanese music resources on this website, Chromatic Dreamers. I have an article with 25 Beautiful Anime Songs for Piano, and you can find all my Japanese Music Theory articles on my Japanese Music Resources page.
And if you’d like to learn how to create Japanese inspired music, check out my course, The Complete Music Theory Course! My course is for absolutely music theory beginners and those who have some knowledge already. You’re bound to learn lots of new chords and concepts that you can incorporate into your playing!
Josh’s Anime Collection
When I played keyboard more casually as a student, this was my favourite site…mostly cause it had the Digimon sheets I wanted. This site has an immense library, and you’ll only find sheets, but audio files of the song as well which can help immensely. It appears to not have been updated since 2013, but if you are looking for an older song, it’s definitely a site to check out.
Ichigo’s Sheet Music
Online Pianist
This is a really cool website. If you’re more of a visual learner or you aren’t able to read sheets efficiently. Each song is available on a player which you can paus, slow down, and even compose to another key. It also includes some fingering notes which could help a newer pianist.
Piano Letter Notes
If you’ve ever wondered if there was tabs for piano, I guess this would be the closest to what that would look like. Instead of sheet music, the notes of the left and right hand are written out just for you on this site. This site also has more recent animes compared to the sheet sites above.
Sheet Download
This site only has 28 titles on the anime page, but there’s actually a lot more if you dig around a bit. They also got game titles if you’re interested in that!
Sheet Music For Free
This site only has 55 sheets at the time of counting, but if you’re interesting in Studio Ghibli movies like Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro and Princess Momonoke, this site will have the original Japanese sheet music you may be seeking.
Jill-Jenn
This site doesn’t have a whole lot of sheets as Jill-Jênn Vie aka JJ transcribes these all himself. Definitely check it out if you weren’t having luck on other pages.
Sheet Host
This site has over 4000 sheets and counting as new sheets are added every day. You can download with an account, or follow the link to find the original sheets.
EASY Piano Tutorial – Japan Anime Song
Here’s an amazing channel for a beginner or early intermediate pianist who wants to start playing anime songs. Each video plays the sheets on the top and also has the notes labeled on the piano. I wished this existed when I played, cause I would pause the video and write the notes myself haha
Piano Hero
If you don’t care for sheets and/or you already know where all the notes are on the piano, this is another great channel to consider.
Conclusion
I hope this article helps you find just the right sheets for you and your current skill level. If this helped you, please consider leaving me a tip! You can also find other Japanese music theory articles on my Japanese Music Resources page.
If you still can’t find the sheets you’re looking for, why not try Fiverr? I’m a huge fan of this site as you can get tabs, sheets, and backing tracks for a pretty reasonable cost. You also have many sellers to choose from. I’ve used em for various things such as logos and guitar tabs, so I’m proud to be an affiliate. Definitely check them out!
