Nostalgia's Guitars
Since I first picked up guitar in 2017, I have bought and re-sold various guitars.
Here is a list of guitars that have been in my possession, and when I’ve used them on stage.
Behringer BlAck StratOcaster
Bought Second-Hand
After buying a few second-hand Guitar Hero games and playing it for a while, I was inspired to play guitar. I avoided the instrument since young as everyone could play it, but the game made it seem fun, and I still had a band dream that I wanted to bring to life. I found someone selling this guitar on Kijiji for a good price. I didn’t know anything about brands or models, but I liked the strat style and really loved black, so I took it.
The instrument was quite heavy and came with thick strings, but I wouldn’t have known until my next guitar. I remember trying to bend strings and just thinking I was weak. The guitar also came with a whammy bar, but it didn’t move properly, so I took it out pretty early on. All in all, the guitar was well set up, sounded good for my newbie ears, and allowed me to learn all I had to.
Squier Bullet Stratocaster HT with Laurel Fingerboard - Tropical Turquoise
Bought At Cosmo Music (Porch Pickup)
After picking up guitar again in 2020, I decided to get a brand name guitar. I couldn’t afford a Fender so I looked at Strats and really loved the blue on this one. Since we had lockdowns for Covid, I could only order online and do porch pickup. The first one I got looked used and had cracks on the body, so I exchanged it. I waited over a month for a new one from the factor, and it had a curved/warped neck and frets that stuck out and would scratch. The local store didn’t see a problem with it, so I learned to adjust the tross rod and shave down the frets myself. Either way, it wasn’t very comfortable to play, so I had my eyes out for a different guitar.
Epiphone Les Paul Special II - Vintage Sunburst
Bought Second-Hand
I was looking into Les Paul styles as I’ve heard good things about them. Found a guy who was selling this and the telecaster below at a good price as he was leaving the country. It was a solid guitar, great for chords. Instantly became my go-to guitar for gigs.
Squier Affinity Series Telecaster - Butterscotch Blonde
Bought Second-Hand
I got this guitar the same time I got the Epiphone. A guy was leaving the country and couldn’t take his guitars with him. They were both pretty much brand new. I’ve always hated the telecaster style, and wasn’t fond of this colour either, but I’ve heard many wonderful things about telecasters. Not to mention, one song I really liked was “Telecaster Stripe” by Polkadot Stringray.
But yeah, having 3 guitars in my possession at the time, I just never picked this one up, so it was the first to go when we moved and I did some serious spring cleaning.
Ibanez S Standard Electric Guitar
Bought At Long & McQuade
I’ve been looking for a pink guitar since 2020. I had my eyes on this limited “American Performer Stratocaster – Penny”, but it was way too much at the time (about $1600). As for this guitar, a friend and I spontaneously visited the guitar store, and this one caught my eye. I’ve never seen a guitar so thin, and it just felt so right in my hand. And for the cost (about $500), I just couldn’t let it go. I told my friend to make sure I don’t buy anything, but it was no use. No regrets though! I’ve never even looked into Ibanez before, but it’s certainly my favourite guitar to date. I’ve sold all the ones I’ve owned above, and only kept this one ^_^
JASMINE JD93CE-BLK BLACK DREADNOUGHT ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Bought Second-Hand
Knowing that I may not always have the means or equipment to play electric guitar, I opted to get an acoustic-electric guitar. This one is especially thick so I really never played it until I joined my current church where they don’t allow electric instruments.
